The Legacy Garden honors all women who garden. It was dedicated May 19, 2019 in the memory of Elena Sette Bruning, Margaret’s dear mother who many came to call Mom.

Plants may come and go, ephemeral with the seasons, but the legacy of a woman’s hands in the soil and her character goes on forever here at the Legacy Garden. If you would like to contribute plants or seeds in the name of a gardener, please contact us.

The labor and love of digging in the soil and cultivating plants and blooms becomes a person’s legacy.

This Legacy Garden upholds the plants gifts given to us by our mothers, sisters, friends, and loved ones. Please consider sharing a plant(s) with us-trade, give, donate in the name of someone beloved to you.

Soon, our online “Bloom guide” showcasing what’s blooming at Poe Run, will share with our friends and family across the world what’s growing in our Appalachian garden.

The Legacy Garden is in early stages of restoration. It was Barbara Carter’s garden first and is now stewarded by Margaret and David. We grow native and deer resistant plants when possible.
